Translate gettext PO files online, free
Upload or paste a .po or .pot catalog, choose a language and download it with the msgstr entries filled in. Comments, references and flags are preserved.
No account, no email, no credit card — up to 25 strings per file.
Your file is translated and then discarded. We never store it in a project or train anything on it.
How this tool handles your gettext PO file
A PO catalog is more than a list of strings: it carries source references, translator comments and fuzzy flags that tooling depends on. This tool fills in the empty msgstr entries and leaves everything else exactly where it was.
Your file is parsed, not guessed at: keys, structure and anything untranslatable are identified first.
The strings are translated by an LLM told it is working on software copy, so button labels stay short and placeholders survive.
The file is rebuilt in the same format, ready to drop back into your project.
Frequently asked questions
Are comments and source references kept?
Yes. Every line that is not a msgstr is copied through untouched, including #: references, translator comments and flags.
Can I translate a .pot template?
Yes. A POT file is a catalog with empty msgstr entries, which is exactly what this tool fills in — save the result as {code}.po for your language.
Are plural forms supported?
Singular entries are translated. Plural entries (msgid_plural with msgstr[0], msgstr[1]) need the plural rules of the target language and are best handled in a full project.
